One of the most frequent problems I see with selling my cut files is that the SVG file opens in a web browser. This really confuses a lot of people. No, this doesn’t mean there is something wrong with the file or that you did not receive an SVG cut file. What this means is that you do not have your cutting machine software set as the default app to open these file types.
There is a really simple fix to this problem. The best part is that it takes less than a minute to permanently solve.
I’m going to walk you through the process on a PC, however, it is very similar on a MAC.
Step 1: Open the Settings
From the Start Menu navigate to Settings > Apps > Default Apps
Step 2: Change Default App
Scroll down the Apps until you see “choose defaults by file type.” Click here and at the top type in .svg
Step 3: Choose Your Default Program
A window will pop up and give you some suggested programs. If Silhouette Studio is not listed here click “Look for another app on this PC.” Navigate to Silhouette Studio and select it.
Step 4: Open an SVG File
Now you’ll notice all your SVG files will have a Silhouette Studio icon. If you double-click on the cut file it will automatically run Silhouette Studio and insert your design.
